1st XI secure important win against Undercliffe

1st XI secure important win against Undercliffe

Stephen Naylor

A five-for our Pakistani international Hasan Raza was crucial in getting the victory at Till Carr Lane on Saturday.

Lightcliffe’s first innings total looked light against Undercliffe as wickets fell regularly. Jordan Pickles top scored with 43 but the Villagers were all out within 31 overs.

In reply, an impressive bowling and fielding performance was key to the success with Hasan taking 5-31, Ivan Stark – making his 1st XI debut – with 3-35, Yusuf Malik with 1-6 and Jordan Pickles finishing off the visitors to secure a 22 run victory.

It means Lightcliffe are 7th in the Bradford Premier League’s Division 1 with 134 points.

Elsewhere this weekend, the 2nd XI suffered a narrow two wicket defeat at Jer Lane. Having made 257/9 from their 50 overs, including a brilliant 83 from 64 from captain Rob Burton, the Villagers couldn’t stop the hosts reaching the target which they did in the 45th over. There were important contributions with the ball from Lucas Arnot (3-67), Rob Burton (2-34), James Horne (1-29) and Andy Walker – making his return from injury (1-39), but it wasn’t enough to stop Jer Lane who are now third in the table with Lightcliffe sitting fourth in the 2nd XI Premier.

Saturday night saw many of our cricketers, plus plenty more from across the club, remain to watch England's successful World Cup quarter final clash with Norway. Pie, peas and a few beers were enjoyed - thanks to Paul for organising the evening.

On Sunday, the 3rd XI ended with a tense finish which saw Golcar fall just one run short of Lightcliffe’s 209/7. Richard Thompson made 58 at Till Carr Lane but then the visitors needed just 6 from the last over to match the total set. Instead, with just one needed from the last, Kiefer Hanman took a wicket instead to secure a winning draw and 15 points which means the Villagers remain unbeaten in the Halifax Sunday League Division 1 and top of the table.

The 4th XI were set a strong 271 by Oakworth in their Sunday League Division 3 clash. In reply, they only lost four wickets in their 40 overs but despite 60 from Bruce Lunn they couldn’t reach the target ending on 219 runs.
