Our Under 11s and Under 13s contest the BdJCL and HxJCL Cups this Bank Holiday weekend

The strength of our junior section has always been a source of great pride at LCC. Current junior coach Paul Ramsden captained very strong league and cup winning sides in the mid 80s, but this current crop at 13s & 11s may just be LCC's GOAT junior teams
- Club Chairman, Richard Leach

Whilst most clubs have completed their junior cricket season's three or four weeks ago, it is a frenetic finale to the junior summer this weekend for Lightcliffe Cricket Club's Under 13 and Under 11 teams.
There is also business as usual for the senior sides.
On Saturday, the 1st XI host Hopton Mills following their defeat last week of league leaders Hartshead Moor who included former England international Tim Bresnan and former Yorkshire CCC captain and coach in their side. The 1sts continue their attempt to overhaul top two Moor and Bowling Old Lane before the matches run out, although we are relying on a defeat or two for the top two to sneak a promotion place.
Meanwhile, the 2nds travel to modern day Bradford Premier League giants New Farnley with survival in the 2nd XI top flight still very much in our own hands. Last week's defeat of Hanging Heaton closed the gap on "Baskets" to just 10 points. With the final fixture of the season being at home to the Batley based club on September 9th an interesting 3 weeks is in prospect. The 3rds also travel to Batley on Sunday to take on Mount CC (formerly Staincliffe CC) on the Batley/Dewsbury border.
On Sunday, the Under 13s have a hectic day, starting with the Bradford Junior League Under 13 Cup Final for the David Bairstow Cup. Our opponents are regular final foes, the always competitive Great Horton Church CC - the match is 30 overs per side starting at 10am at Hepworth Idle CC (BD10 8RU - please note this is not the old Idle CC's ground.)
The Bradford final should finish at about 3pm, but there will be no chance to celebrate or commiserate as there will be the 40 minute journey to Stainland CC (HX4 9HF) to contest the Halifax Junior Cricket League Under 13 Collinson Cup Final against Blackley CC. This final starts at 4pm and is 20 overs per side.
Our Under 13s have already won the Halifax and Bradford league titles and the Heavy Woollen Under 13 cup this summer, so by sundown on Sunday could have won a remarkable 5 trophies this season! The 13s have also competed in the Halifax Under 15 league this season and came runners up by just 2 points to Stones CC U 15s - the chance of pipping Stones to the title cruelly taken away by a rain soaked Ripponden evening!!
Lightcliffe will field strong sides in both finals despite absence of captain and Yorkshire under 13 player Monty Ramsden, Yorkshire Under 12 player Lucas Arnot (both in the County "Holiday Window") and Halifax Junior League opening bowler Luke Barrowcliffe. West Yorkshire rep player Sam Walker will captain the side in both finals, and will hope to repeat his form of last Sunday when he both retired on 25 not out and registered the remarkable figures of 5 for 1 with his leg spin as Lightcliffe won the semi-final versus Moorlands by 91 runs - LCC 120; Moorlands 29.
Our Under 11s have also won both the Bradford JCL and Halifax JCL U11 leagues without losing a match. They are almost at full strength and will be captained by West Yorkshire Under 11 all rounder Jacob Carroll who will also have West Yorkshire U10 player Yusuf Akram to call upon. The 11s have benefitted hugely from competing in the Heavy Woollen Under 13 league where they have finished in the top half against their much older opponents.
On Sunday the 11s contest the Halifax JCL Under 11 Collinson Cup Final at Stainland CC with Thornton CC our opponents - 1230 start.
On Monday Bankfoot CC is the venue for the Bradford JCL Ernest Jones U11 cup final with Pudsey Congs the opponents - 10 am start. Ernest was a legendary Bradford League umpire at both senior and junior level - he rarely gave an LBW decision until June, sometimes July!
The club are rightly proud of these supremely talented young cricketers, especially so as nearly all of them have only ever played club cricket for Lightcliffe Cricket Club. They epitomise everything that is good about LCC.
Both the 11s and 13s have prepared well this week for their respective finals, with separate net sessions. They also came together on Thursday evening to have a pairs practice match after Friarmere had conceded the final Under 13 Halifax JCL fixture of the season.
And both the 13s and 11s will look the part this weekend thanks to main club sponsor TOG24 who have provided training tops to commemorate the remarkable weekend of 4 finals!
Any/all support for our talented young cricketers this weekend would be most welcome!
