
On Saturday, the rain threatened to intervene in the day’s games and though it took until about 3pm for both the fixtures against Batley to begin (the 1sts at home, the 2nds away), two 30-over matches were completed.
At Till Carr Lane, the 1st XI beat Batley by 86 runs. Openers Niall Lockley 50 from 40 and Hasan Raza’s 58 from 55 got the Villagers off to a flying start while Finlay Hill came in at the end to hit a quickfire 19 from 6 to set the score to beat at 217. In reply, Batley fell well short ending on 130 all out. Hasan took 3-30, Yusuf Malik ended 3-18, Finlay was 2-37 and Osama Ahmad and Leo Flanagan both took one wicket. While Batley were struggling at our home, they were putting up more of a fight at their home. Ultimately though it was Lightcliffe’s 2nd XI who continued their strong form winning by 21 runs. An impressive 91 for Rhys Jowett the batting highlight while young Villagers shone with the ball - 4-56 for Lucas Arnot and 3-46 for Sam Walker.
On Sunday, with much improved weather, the 3rds travelled to Triangle for the Halifax League’s Rod Warhurst Cup Semi-Final. They put in an impressive performance to secure the Club’s first final of the season winning by two wickets. 2-19 for captain Gary Lewsley, 2-43 for Lucas Arnot and 2-62 for Mick Wood helped restrict the home side to 195/7 from their 40 overs. In reply, some quality batting down the order got the Villagers over the line, despite a late flurry of wickets. 34 for Jack Anderson, 48 for Lucas, 62 for Kiefer Hanman and 26 for Gary brought the victory in the 29th over.

The 4th XI made it two wins on the bounce at home with an 85-run win over Outlane. John Wood top scored with an unbeaten 49 as Lightcliffe made 171. In reply, it was the young Villagers who impressed with the ball to help bowl out the visitors cheaply - 2-3 from Charlie Modgill, 2-10 from Zach Challis and 2-15 from Freddie Wood. Before the senior games, there were two junior fixtures at home. The U11s secured a comprehensive win over Adwalton, including 22 runs for Jack Crawshaw and 16 for Ben Smith, while it was 4-14 for Jack Jameson (including a hat-trick) and 2-2 for Dom Naylor. The U9s took on Stainland with some good performances across the teams, including 3-10 for Reggie Parkinson with the ball and 23 from two overs for Luke Naylor with the bat.
