He passed Ashley Metcalfe's total last weekend with a crucial dozen in the win against Baildon.
Zani’s 542 innings for Lightcliffe, Bradford & Bingley and Pudsey St Lawrence, have included 26 centuries and 84 half centuries, and he is one of fewer than 50 cricketers to have made over 10,000 league runs.
It is a remarkable achievement for a remarkable leader, and a remarkable family who are Villagers through and through.
With dad Roger’s over 600 first team appearances, mum Linda’s many years supporting off the field (and continuing to produce exceptional bakes to this day) and son Ted making his 2nd XI debut just this season, as well as being part of this year’s Club T20 U15 Yorkshire Cup winning team, the Steads continue to be much loved and hugely respected by everyone at Lightcliffe.
Richard Leach, Club Chairman, said:
“Moving to third place in the all-time run scorers in Bradford Cricket League 1st XI cricket is a testament to the strength of Zani’s cricket over many years.
“From being a Lightcliffe junior himself, to inspiring the next generation as a coach of our trophy-winning U15s, he continues to be an exceptional and inspirational leader on and off the pitch who we are very lucky to have at this great club.
“The Stead family have done, and continue to do, so much for Lightcliffe. On behalf of all our players, members and supporters I thank them for their service and congratulate Zani on his latest much-deserved achievement’.
