The Trophy is the contest between the winners of the West league during the season - Lightcliffe - and the winners of the East league - Wrenthorpe.
Hosted brilliantly by Wrenthorpe, the contest saw the home side win the toss and choose to let Lightcliffe bat first.
The young Villagers made 132/7 with Jacob Carroll and Harrison Heaton both retiring not out on 25 and important contributions from Harry Betts (21), Luca Mullaney (21) and George Deighton (22).
In response, Wrenthorpe also had a couple of players who reached the retiring not out stage but thanks to some strong bowling from across the team, the other batters couldn't get going.
There were wickets for Luca (1-4), Jacob (1-12) Abbas Haidry (1-7) and Brodie Tait (1-14) plus important overs keeping the score depressed from George Deighton (0-3), Charlie Carroll (0-4), George Terry (0-11) and Yusuf Akram (0-18).
It meant Lightcliffe won by 32 runs but it was a victory for our sport with a game played in brilliant spirits among two excellent team packed with brilliant young cricketers.
Congratulations to all the players involved through the season on each team, all the coaches and for all the support from every side.
Thank you also to Wrenthorpe’s team for their hosting and hospitality.
