It was a warm, sunny and rain-free weekend for Lightcliffe’s cricketers which led to six wins from seven games.
The 1st XI was the one defeat – and it was a disappointing one up against a side who before this weekend hadn’t won a match this season. Baildon got the win by four wickets after reaching the target set by Lightcliffe of 179 in the 40th over.

Other than that result, it was wins across the board – and the 2nds certainly set the tone with a performance in a captivating game at Till Carr Lane that saw them beat New Farnley by just 5 runs.
60 for Will Leach, 43 for Rhys Jowett and 42 for Regan Broadbent meant Lightcliffe made 219 in their 50 overs.
In reply, there was a another brilliant showing with the ball from Sam Walker with 5-63, a top performance from James Horne with 3-37, and I can’t not mention Oliver Barrowcliffe - after facing one ball at the end of Lightcliffe’s innings and scoring a six from it, he was nerveless at the death to take the final wicket in the final over.
Sunday’s senior action saw the 3rds travel to Warley & Elland CC to take on Copley – and they secured 20 points by bowling out the home side for just 105 in the 28th over. Chris Terry’s 3-9, captain Gary Lewsley’s 3-12 and Charlie Carroll’s 2-12 the highlights of a tight bowling performance. 34 from opener Richard Thompson and an unbeaten 38 from Jack Anderson meant the Villagers reached the target in the 15th over.
The 4ths also secured 20 points and bounced back from last Sunday’s disappointing result by beating Slaithwaite at Till Carr Lane. Bowling out the visitors for 106 with 3-8 from captain Neil Wood, 2-20 for Tom Smaldon and 2-15 from Freddie Wood, it was Bruce Lunn’s unbeaten 61 that saw Lightcliffe secure the win after 36 overs.

Our junior sides also had a busy Sunday and it started with two U9 teams in action at home as Blackley brought 16 young players to take on 16 of ours in the league fixture and a friendly. It was wins for both teams in competitive contests played in the best of spirits.

At the same time, our U11s were at Gomersal to take on Moorlands and also secured victory.
It was also a day when Lightcliffe was well represented at the home of Yorkshire Cricket as some of our U9s, U11s & U13s were showing their colours in the Vitality Blast fixture at Headingley.
