Capturing Lightcliffe Cricket Club at 150 not out

Stephen Naylor20 May - 16:21

We have brought together members from across our community for a celebratory photograph to mark 150 years of Lightcliffe Cricket Club.

This is a special photograph marking an important moment in the history of our Cricket Club.
- Club Chairman Richard Leach

Nearly 250 people, from U7 Minis members to the First Team and from the pétanque section to the club’s volunteer coaches and leaders, are pictured in an image which will be featured in a history of the club being written by former Chairman Bob Horne which will be published this summer.

With 320 pages and 250 illustrations, it promises to be one of the most comprehensive books ever written about a cricket club and a must buy for everyone who has ever been connected or involved at Till Carr Lane.

The photo, taken by Ray Spencer, also marks the start of the final countdown to a weekend of celebrations at the Club between Thursday 3rd and Sunday 6th July.

  • It begins on Thursday 3rd July with a celebration lunch and special T20 match, featuring international legendary cricketers like Courtney Walsh and Curtley Ambrose from the Lashings World XI, accompanied by the voice of cricket Henry Blofeld.
  • It will be followed on Friday 4th July by a night of Big Bonkers Bingo for Overgate Hospice raising money for their Big Build Appeal.
  • A joint celebration will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 5th July when our friends from across the road at St Matthews Church, Lightcliffe, who are also celebrating their 150th anniversary this year join us for Afternoon Tea in the Marquee during the 1st XI fixture v Keighley.
  • And the celebration weekend concludes on Sunday 6th July with the annual Lightcliffe Village Gala with food, drink, music, stalls, games & much more.

Everyone from Lightcliffe, West Yorkshire and beyond is invited to be part of all these events and more details can be found at www.lightcliffecricket.com/150years

Lightcliffe Cricket Club Chairman Richard Leach said:

“This is a special photograph marking an important moment in the history of our Cricket Club.

“The nearly 250 members pictured - from ages 4 to over 80 - are an illustration of our determination to not just be a club of excellent cricket that develops players of all ages, but to be a family club at the heart of the community we’ve been part of for 150 years.

“We look forward to our special weekend of celebrations, now just over six weeks away, and invite as many people as possible from near and far to join us for events which we’re sure will be remembered for years to come.”
