Hundreds of people packed into our home on Sunday as we had the honour of hosting the Bradford Premier Cricket League’s Bentley Drains Priestley Cup Final for the first time in our 151-year history.
Woodlands CC and New Farnley CC, who have met many times already this season, produced what must be one of the most thrilling contests in the Cup’s long and prestigious history with Woodlands CC running by 8 runs.
The first innings started with a 15-minute delay due to something falling from the sky (the history books tell us it’s called ‘rain’ apparently) and then late on in the first 50 overs, there was off field drama as a generator decided to ignore the Government’s emergency alert and burst into flames. A ground delay followed as fire extinguishers leapt into action, thankfully reducing the offending item from blazing power source to smouldering mess. A visit from the Fire Service also followed (thank you to our amazing firefighters) to check on things, but thankfully the game was able to resume and the drama return to where it should be – on the pitch.
Chasing 212, New Farnley looked to be heading for the title for much of the second innings. Despite being well ahead of the rate required, they regularly lost wickets and ultimately that cost them as they were bowled out for 204 with 11 balls of the match to come.

Thank you to everyone who came to support the teams, cheer on the brilliant cricket and enjoy the food, drink and fun. And fight the fire… (we like to make things memorable at Lightcliffe).
A huge thank you too to all our Lightcliffe volunteers for their hard work preparing for the Final, setting up on the day and clearing up after the event.
It was another momentous day (for so many reasons) in our history.
