Lightcliffe 1st XI made it 2 wins on the trot last week with a comfortable victory at local rival Northowram Fields CC by 4 wickets. Left arm finger spinner Peter Dobson was Northowram's destroyer in chief with 6 for 27 from his 10.3 overs with South African overseas off spinner Isaac Dikgale bagging a brace alongside homegrown right arm off spinner Jordan Pickles, unusually opening the bowling and picking up a pair of wickets too. Incredibly, there were six successful lbw shouts on a wicket which kept low.
In reply, Alex Stead suffered another first ball dismissal, although Zani showed his quality betwix his two hiccoughs with a superb 60 not out, crafted from 152 deliveries, to almost singe handedly drag Lightcliffe to victory at Wrenthorpe. And when Niall Lockley was dismissed Lightcliffe were in a little trouble at 48 for 4, despite the efforts of opener Subhaan Ammar, 17, and Isaac Dikgale, 20 with both hitting four 4's.
But skipper Jack Hendy, with four 4's in his 35, and young Jordan Pickles with six 4's in his 38 not out ensured an 18 point haul which sees the 1st XIjust 6 points adrift of early season leaders Bowling Old Lane.
This week, Lightcliffe host pre-season promotion favourites Keighley CC who are currently winless and propping the table up. Lightcliffe's only change is enforced as Peter Dobson is at a wedding and is replaced by young Will Leach. Former Brighouse player Mark Gilliver is expected to open the batting for Keighley as he attempts to overhaul former Keighley player Richard Robinson as the all time leading Bradford League run scorer.
