Despite an 11th hour reshuffle of the groups, the BCL Rigg Bash got under way this afternoon. Please see below the official explanation with the ultimate goal of all participating clubs being qualification for the BCL Finals Day to be held at Keighley CC on Sunday July 21st:
"The Rigg Bash Group B Cup gets under way today and due to the late withdrawal of East Ardsley, Gildersome & Farnley Hill and Crossbank Methodists, the fixtures have been revised.
As a result of the teams pulling out, Pool 1 has been scrapped. Keighley will replace Gildersome & Farnley Hill in Pool 3 and Great Preston will take the place of Crossbank Methodists in Pool 4. Pool 2 remains unchanged with the same schedule.
It does mean different start times for Keighley and Great Preston and both clubs are aware of these.
With now only having three pools, the three pool winners will go through to finals day, along with the second placed club in Pool 4. The finals day will take place at Keighley on Sunday July 21 as previously agreed.
The League Management Board will, at its next meeting on Monday June 10th, consider punishments for the three teams that have withdrawn.
Today's revised fixtures:
POOL TWO
Hunslet Nelson v Northowram Fields 1pm
Hunslet Nelson v Wakefield St Michael's 4pm
POOL THREE
Heckmondwike & Carlinghow v Crossflatts 1pm
Heckmondwike & Carlinghow v Keighley 4pm
POOL FOUR
Lightcliffe v Altofts 1pm
Lightcliffe v Great Preston 4pm
East Leeds v Streethouse 1pm"
The Gordon Rigg Bradford Premier League website gave top billing to the double header at Wakefield Road this afternoon - below is their report on our victories against Altofts and Great Preston in front of a healthy crowd at LCC which saw Leo rightly awarded the match ball as a keepsake.
These victories saw us take a giant stride towards qualification for Finals Day at Keighley CC on Sunday July 21st:
Malik and Flanagan shine in Lightcliffe's winning start
"Lightcliffe made a great start to the Rigg Bash Group B Cup competition by winning both of their Pool Four matches.
Two half centuries from young batter Yusuf M and a five-wicket haul from 16 year old left arm finger spinner Leo Flanagan were the highlights of the victories over Altofts and Great Preston.
Yusuf made 55 and George L 34 as Lightcliffe made 151-6 before dismissing the 2022 winners Altofts for 115 with Redford Holdsworth taking 3-23 to secure a 36-run win.
Yusuf again impressed with 50 as he and Niall Lockley (42) helped Lightcliffe to make 140-8 before bowling out Great Preston for 110 with Flanagan taking 5-11."
