Lightcliffe U13s 145/8 lost to Great Horton Church U13s 147/5 - Bradford JCL U13s Cup Final

In a repeat of the Under 11 final of two years ago, in which Lightcliffe emerged victorious, the U13 team faced unbeaten Great Horton in the Bradford League Cup Final at East Bierley.

Winning the toss, captain Matt chose to bat first hoping to keep up the team’s record of building a strong total before restricting the opposition.

Facing the best bowling attack we’ve played against this season, Lightcliffe scored early boundaries but lost two wickets before reaching 25. However, George and Gurdaas took the score to 65 with some excellent strokes before Gurdaas was bowled attempting a big shot over cow corner.

George continued to add to the total before being caught behind to one that kept low and then two further wickets fell. Dylan proceeded to show excellent composure being supported by Hari and Imad to see out the overs and post a total of 145 which seemed competitive providing the bowling was up to the usual standard.

The Great Horton openers batted sensibly to take the score to 36 without loss before the introduction of Oliver, who bowled with accuracy and control to take three wickets.

However, runs kept coming from the other end and despite wickets from Hari and Joel, the run rate was always manageable on a large ground with plenty of space. Great Horton’s middle order controlled the remaining overs well to see their side home with three overs to spare.

Despite a disappointing end, the U13 team should be commended for their attitude and ability all season – two cup wins and a league title is not a bad year.

Thanks to all who’ve helped the coaches, whether it’s scorers (reluctant or otherwise) or people willing to help out in the tea room. Hopefully the lads have enjoyed it and will continue to represent Lightcliffe with the same attitude.

Match reporter & Team Manager James Brearley will never acknowledge the efforts he has made to ensure the development of the young proteges under his mentorship this season.
The team reflect him and he should be especially proud of the way the side have represented the club this season.
