The Under 13 squad will open the season for LCC on Friday 14th April with their 3rd visit to New Rover CC's Richmond Oval where former Headingley groundsman Keith Boyce lives on site ensuring fine playing facilities.
A similar pre-season fixture 2 years ago as an Under 11 squad saw a remarkable match finish in a tie in the gathering early season gloom.
A 430pm start for a 25 over per side match in North Leeds should ensure no such issues this time around at The Richmond Oval, Smithy Mills Lane, Adel, Leeds,LS16 8HF Telephone: 0113 2613923.
New Rover have a junior section awash with county age group and regional talent which saw them win the Yorkshire section of the ECB Under 13 National Cup last summer. Whilst we gave them their toughest match in the Yorkshire section, New Rover still beat us comfortably and will provide a stern test first up for our young Villagers.
The trip to New Rover is swiftly followed with what we believe to be the first fixture ever between an LCC XI and Clifton Alliance CC of the ECB Yorkshire Premier League North. Clifton Alliance run 5 senior teams including their T20 side and a similar number of junior teams to LCC but benefit from a 2nd ground adjacent to their main facility, something which is on our wishlist going forward!
Their Under 13 squad is particularly strong including one county age group player from last summer in Jonty Beer plus 4 North Yorkshire regional players in Nat Taylor, George Hanson, Charlie Rose and Jolyon Beer.
LCC are likely to be able to field a similar strength side with our county age group player from last summer Monty Ramsden likely to be joined by last summer's West Yorkshire regional picks Sam Walker, Luke Barrowcliffe, Lucas Arnot and Ted Stead although Alex Gillgrass will be missing due to a hockey tournament.
Both sides can also call upon an array of other talented young cricketers who represent their respective league sides in the Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival competition whose group matches and semi-finals take place over the Spring Bank Holiday week. LCC will host one of the Bradford Junior League Under 13 fixtures on Tuesday 30th May with an 11am start when the Upper Airedale league are the visitors.
To help prepare our boys for the YJCF tournament, our trip to York will be a 40 over fixture commencing at 2pm on Sunday April 16th at The Vincent & Brown Alliance Cricket Ground, Clifton Park Avenue, Shipton Road, York, YO30 5RE. Clifton Alliance CC is pictured at the top of this page.
The Under 13 squad coaches Alex Stead, Andy Walker and Paul Ramsden hope these 2 fixtures will prepare their charges well for the ECB cup ties which will commence in late April. The draw for the Yorkshire sections of both the Under 13 and Under 15 ECB National Cup will take place before Easter and will be published on the LCC website as soon as we receive it.
