Defeat at Moorlands

Defeat at Moorlands

Stephen Naylor

I think the Villagers would be quite happy to never play Moorlands ever again after a very quick drubbing down in Mirfield.

Match Report by Tom Fletcher

It was another night and yet another app malfunction (which meant both scorers were scoring offline after some rogue phone basher had logged themself into the match, and not back out again) so apologies to anyone hoping to follow live online.

LCC won the toss and had to put on a strong score to pile the pressure on Moorlands attack when they would eventually come in to bat.

George opened with Brodie and offered the best display with the bat, retiring not out from 35 balls faced - some lovely boundaries hit and doing it in consummate style.

Brodie, Nico and Rosie (one of our three Ollie's of the night) all came in next and managed to scrape 18 runs between then, usually slogging all over the shop; sadly none of this older guard could get a good read on the wicket. The nerves finally fraying for Rob Rose when his son was caught on the third attempt after spanking a boundary over cover the shot previous; this wasn’t going to be our night.

Noah offered a lot more with the bat playing some lovely drives and cuts to nudge us up towards the lofty 70s; 17 from 23 balls from him was a great display. The scorer knew Bosh’s Uncle; which was irrelevant to the scoring of the game but ups the word count for my report.

Henry up next, and before he walked on to the turf he uttered "go hard or go home" – his first shot was a biggest defensive shot you’ve ever seen, which made us all chuckle! He came good though with some instinctive running between the wickets creeping LCC up the score. Some controversy during Henners dismissal which resulted in some classic Moorlands drama, the usual soap opera. But the theatrics didn’t put young Woody off who played some majestic shots finishing our innings with a ramp shot over about 12 fielders for a brilliant 4! Shot of the match.

Lightcliffe 83 for 5. Hhhmmmmm.

Moorlands came out all guns blazing - as expected. One of their players had their name plastered all over their bat; you know it’s going to be fun when that happens. He retired off what felt like 2 balls.

The fielding was generally ok with some fine bowling from Brodie, Freddie and Webby – who all showed we have consistent strength in depth, very few extras were given and when Max came into bowl, they buckled with two great catches, both equally as good, taken by George and Woody.

Sadly though it was too little too late and Moorlands won easily with about 100 overs to spare.

Our lads held their heads up high - a smile on every face walking out of that building, not bothered by any hullabaloo from the opposition; something we should all be very proud of.
