Match Report by Tom (and Nico) Fletcher

The thought of Crossbanks away in Batley after an exhausting, no toilet stop, 5 hour drive from the actual centre of London wasn't the most appealing of thoughts, but alas it was a chance to switch off whilst basking in the delights of one of the most picturesque parts of Batley. Yes, you read that right.

No time for a behemoth of a report today but a report none the less.

LCC won the toss and opted to bat as seems to be the plan these days. If we won games based on tossing we would have won the league by now. First up was Charlie and Bosh... and in the art of delegation like any dad would do - Nico, 'it's over to you' (imagine me saying that, it works better then):

"Bosh batted really well with some classic shots until he was well bowled. Charlie was his usual self and hit two boundaries. Ollie (R) had an off day for him and got bowled then the other Ollie (W) was class hitting three 4s.

Then Freddie came in and hit one towards the bar for 4 (a place where they were putting their TV up for the day's sporting dessert - the England game). Jim came in then and faced some tricky balls. One of their bowlers was changing the way he bowled in between every ball, are you allowed to do that?!

I came in for Jim, but let's not talk about my bit, but I did try and go for it. So did Brodie but then he got skittled by their best bowler. Henners did well and kept that guy out and the batting performance of the innings was Zander really, wasn't it dad? He hit 12 of 7 balls and REALLY went for it. Aidan got 1 off 2 with a strike rate he was happy with!"

Sadly Nico didn't have much to say for our bowling so best step back in.

The Villagers totalled 97 runs which was catchable so needed a strong bowling attack. Brodie and Charlie started well but sadly their batters were strong and clever enough to defend the wicket in anyway they could. The parents started the match wondering if we would make the England kick off at 9pm, but ended the game with time to call at the shops for chips and dips pre game - such was the strength of the Crossbanks bat.

All in all not the best game they will play in but equally not the worst. We go again....
