It proved to be an evening where there were impressive performances with bat and ball that were just too much for the opposition.
Batting first, Brodie and George put boosters on the total as they accelerated away - both retiring not out. The visitors were at 69 before the first wicket fell, 95 before the second and 137 for the third - helped by another retiree in Ollie Wood (using surnames vital on a night when Ollie’s made up a third of the team).
It was 162/6 after 20 overs - a total that would be hard for even the strongest team to match.
So it was into the Great Horton Park Chapel innings and, on a night when much of West Yorkshire had been hit by flash flooding, the waters rose fast and submerged the Bradford side.
Over 2 - two wickets in two balls from Charlie.
Over 3 - two wickets in two balls from Noah.
Over 4 - just the one wicket from Freddie… but he made up for that in over 6 with two wickets in, you’ve guessed it, two balls.
It was 11-7. As a contest, the game was over. But it’s to the immense credit of the hosts that it took until the 14th and, yes - you’ve guessed it once again, the return of Freddie to take the next. And then another two balls later. It was a brilliant 5-10 and a night he, and the Landin family, will remember for some time.
Ollie Webb put Great Horton Park Chapel out of their misery in the 17th over. 37 all out, a comprehensive win, but just the start of what we hope can be a strong cup campaign.
