Outlane batted first, and every young Villager played their part in the bowling attack - there were some excellent spells, particularly from Nathan, who started an outstanding game by bowling two brilliant overs for just one run.
Jack was also very tidy, conceding only two runs from his two overs, while Bertie and Harry both picked up a wicket apiece. They kept working hard in the field throughout, applying pressure and making it difficult for Outlane to build momentum.
And though Rob and our coaching team may have been making some mental notes about avoiding wides and no balls, and umpire Tim may need some physio on his shoulders, there was plenty of energy and encouragement across the team. 77/3 was the Outlane total – a net score of 262.
In reply, Lightcliffe batted positively and sensibly – opening pair Bertie and George started well, adding 11 runs, followed by Arthur and Harry who faced some tough balls. George’s 13 was impressive, as was Nathan’s 14 in the final pair with Jenson whose wicket-free final pairing was important for getting the hosts over the line. The final total was 95/2 – a net score of 285 meaning a win by 23 runs.
Overall, it was a really encouraging U9s fixture, full of teamwork, effort and contributions from across the side played in the sunshine in good spirits.
