Having won the toss and electing to field, Lightcliffe wasted no time in applying pressure.
Gomersal were bowled out for just 62 runs in 18.5 overs, thanks to disciplined bowling and sharp fielding from all the side, George T was the pick of the fielders with Luca's pace and Abbas' accuracy causing problems.
The Lightcliffe lads were respectful to their younger opponents - often modifying their action to ensure a balanced contest. This was great to see and commended by the Gomersall CC coach.
The chase was brisk and clinical, Charlie M set the tone with a fluent 24 off 20 balls (2 fours, 1 six). Harrison H anchored the innings with an unbeaten 23 off 21 balls (3 fours) while George T added to his impressive fielding with a quickfire 9 off 4 balls.
The result confirmed Lightcliffe as undefeated champions of the Heavy Woollen Junior Cricket’s Martin Stubbs League West for 2025 – a superb achievement and a testament to the hard work, teamwork, and skill shown throughout the season not just by those playing tonight but the entire U13 squad this season.
A huge congratulations to the players, coaches, and parents for an outstanding campaign. The future is bright for this talented group of cricketers!
