MATCH REPORT - BY RICHARD LEACH
The first ever competitive fixture for Lightcliffe's Sunday 2nd team saw the game go to the last over, but ended in a narrow defeat.
The game proved the development potential of entering two teams in the Halifax Sunday League as Lightcliffe, with 9 junior players, faced an opposition with 9 senior players.
Despite the huge disparity in experience, and with the added handicap of losing the toss and being inserted on a soft-ish (but true) April wicket, Lightcliffe posted a competitive total of 150, revolving around George Leach's patient 48.
In the second innings, as the pitch and outfield speeded up, Lightcliffe used nine bowlers, searching for wickets. But despite much tidy bowling and sound ground fielding, Lightcliffe's hopes were thwarted by a couple of spilt catches and the vast experience of opposition opener Akhtar, who finished 62 not out.
George Leach 48
