Lightcliffe's Sunday 2nd XI recorded their first win of the season and their first ever competitive victory in an emphatic performance at home against Rastrick.
Winning the toss on a hard and true wicket, which wisely had been covered overnight, captain Richard Leach had no hesitation in batting first against a Rastrick team bearing an uncanny resemblance to Lightcliffe's own - full of lads and dads.
After the early loss of Noah Hemingway, the Leach brothers - Will and George - complied a commanding stand of 170 with boundaries to all corners. Younger brother George recorded the second century of his career, while older brother Will posted a fine 75. Following on from this, Oliver Barrowcliffe led the charge in the final few overs, scoring a composed 28 not out, and helping Lightcliffe to record a daunting total of 252 for 4 from their 40 overs.
In reply, Rastrick started brightly, recording a 50 opening stand in quick time. But the introduction into the attack of veteran medium pacer James Brearley and young slow left armer Leo Flanagan quickly turned matters in Lightcliffe's favour. Leo's bowling figures - 4 wickets for 18 runs from his 8 overs, of which 3 were maidens - effectively ended all hope for Rastrick.
In the end, by far the best fielding performance of the season, with catches by Ben Mear, Noah and Oliver, plus run outs from Dom Phillips and James, brought a swift end to Rastrick's innings. Rastrick's last five batsmen all fell for ducks, leaving their final total at 93, and a resounding winning margin of 159 runs for LCC.
