With Sunday morning seeing Till Carr Lane feature our U11s in their Cup Semi-Final, the afternoon saw the average age of those taking to the field substantially higher as the latest round of the Yorkshire Grey Fox Trophy came to our home.

Garforth's Silver Tykes were the visitors and they looked like a force to be reckoned with - not least as their ages meant they started with a huge 40 runs on the board compared to Lightcliffe's 14. And that's even with Paul Ramsden playing for the home side (just checking you're reading this, Paul...)

With a frankly disappointing level of commitment from many of the regular Over 50 players who had booked holidays and feigned injuries to avoid being able to play, there were some different, if familiar, faces in the line-up.

With the toss lost and Lightcliffe put into field, Silver Tykes looked to build on their already hefty opening score - and indeed three of the top four in their batting order reached the retire not out target of 30 runs in the team's 30 overs.

But for most of the rest of the line-up, their time at the crease was short and six wickets were taken with two for captain Gary Lewsley and one each for Michael Brooke, John Wood and Matt Greenwood.

183 was the target set and Michael Brooke and Bruce Lunn were first out for the Villagers to start the chase. It wasn't the best of starts with Bruce returning to the Pavilion in the second over, and three more wickets falling in the space of nine balls by the close of the eighth.

After that though, the team powered away with Lewsley and David Heath both reaching 30 not out to retire.

In our junior games, we love to give the opportunity to as many players as possible - and it seems the same approach is taken for our very-much-less-young players as every one got a bat. Including the aforementioned Paul Ramsden who came in at 11, faced four balls and ended the game with a six from a shot which I guarantee will be talked about for weeks. By Paul mainly.
