Skipper Mark Horne won the toss and elected to bat on a sun-drenched Sunday afternoon.
Opening the batting was a family affair, with Jack Anderson making his 3rd team debut and Uncle John making his Lightcliffe debut. The pair shared a quick-fire opening stand of 57 with the younger Anderson finishing on a career best of 42.
David Heath (43) was next at the crease and was soon joined by Richard Thompson. Tommy Thompson rolled back the years and showed the class he still possesses with a magnificent 100 (retired not out). James Horne (55 not out) ensured a large total was secured with an elegant half century himself.
Sowerby, in reply, started like a house on fire with the score rapidly moving to 83 within 10 overs. The introduction of the old campaigner Michael Wood would change the course of the game, almost immediately. With pace off the ball Sowerby slumped to 97 all out, Wood taking 5-8 and the returning Mark Whiley 2-2.
Next up for the 3rd X1 in the cup are Birkby Rose Hill, to be played on the 11th May at Till Carr Lane.
