It took a mere 34 minutes for Lightcliffe to chase down Saltaire's 71-run total on a sun-drenched wicket at Roberts Park. If only all junior cricket matches went this smoothly...
A young Saltaire team took to the crease and started steadily, knocking a boundary and a few cheeky singles. But Bosh soon put a stop to proceedings, picking out the middle stump plumb to claim Saltaire's first victim!
Some very tight bowling from Dominic and Jack meant Saltaire couldn't get into a rhythm. Then up stepped Charlie with another pearler of a ball, dismissing the batsman for zero runs! Freddie wanted a piece of the action, and, in the vein of his two previous teammates, delivered the ball perfectly dead on centre, sending the bails to Wales (as they say).
George (Mr Reliable), then took out the next threat with another fast-paced rasper. Some lovely bowling from Jim and even more impressive dexterity from Isaac Tbehind the wickets led to Saltaire's fifth dismissal!
Nico then bowled and caught towards the end of the innings, leaving the Salts on 71 for 6. It was a beatable total, but also one that could easily be lost if the lads got complacent.
What they then did was the opposite of complacent.
Like a well-oiled mill machine, they knocked off the 71 runs in practically half an hour. George and Ollie both retired comfortably, and Nico added a cheeky 5 to get us over the line in record time. The crowd clapped both teams off after a wonderful morning of cricket, and even the Morris dancers came out to celebrate progression into the next round of the cup!
The UNESCO World Heritage site of Saltaire was built on money made predominantly from wool, and unfortunately, this morning the home side were simply like lambs to the slaughter.
