Cleckheaton fielded a young side, but they showed great composure, with some lovely boundaries struck throughout their innings.
Lightcliffe’s bowling attack was impressive, with Theo setting the tone by bowling a maiden in his very first over. On debut, Jenson bowled superbly, showing great control and was unlucky not to claim a wicket, as was Nathan, who also bowled very well.
George S and Jacob were both rewarded for their efforts, each taking 2 wickets. Jacob also produced a moment of magic in the field, taking a stunning one-handed diving catch.
Lightcliffe were outstanding in the field, with sharp fielding resulting in three run-outs, a testament to the team’s energy and commitment. The enthusiasm from all players was brilliant to see. Cleckheaton completed their innings with a total of 275.
In reply, Jack and Joey opened the batting confidently, finding the boundary four times in quick succession. The momentum continued with more boundaries from George H, Reggie, and Theo. The final pairing of Jacob and George S took the game away from Cleckheaton, with George S smashing six fours on his way to a rapid 26-run knock.
Lightcliffe finished with a superb total of 333 to secure a well-deserved victory.
The attitude and team spirit shown by Lightcliffe were outstanding, with constant encouragement, plenty of high fives following wickets, and great camaraderie throughout. George H even channelled his inner Aussie behind the stumps, adding a bit of cheeky sledging to the contest!
